He will share answers to the common questions he gets asked such as, "What colour is grass?", before focusing the session on practical tips on how you can improve digital experiences for colour-blind users.

    Having written ‘Being a colour blind designer’ for Creative Review and spoken to design and accessibility teams at UNICEF UK, the Ministry of Justice, HMCTS, Lloyds Banking group, and De la Rue, Matt continues to share his perspective to influence design teams to consider colourblind audiences in their design decisions.

    Matt Roberts is senior digital and UX designer at Sightsavers, an international charity that prevents avoidable sight loss and fights for disability rights across Africa and Asia.

    A key aspect of his role is championing accessible design to ensure as many people as possible can engage with digital experiences. He has written articles on being a colourblind designer for publications such as Creative Review, led accessibility workshops at the D&AD creative festival, and spoken at events for organisations including UNICEF UK, the International Rescue Committee and the Lloyds Banking Group.

    He is co-chair of the BIMA inclusive design council, where he helps to educate digital agencies across the UK about accessibility best practice. He has twice been named in the BIMA 100 for his continued work to ensure that as many people as possible can participate equitably in everyday experiences.

  • BIMA inclusive design council

    Matt is the Lead Digital Designer and User Experience Manager at Sightsavers, a non-governmental organisation that works in developing countries to treat and prevent avoidable blindness and promote equality for people with disabilities. His experience spans various creative disciplines, including branding, UI/UX design, iIllustration, animation and art direction, and he now focuses on accessible and inclusive design, for which he is a keen advocate. He has written for Creative Review about being a colour-blind designer, and he helped to create Sightsavers’ ‘Perspectives’ exhibition at the D&AD festival in 2018, which encouraged designers to look at the world from a different viewpoint to ensure their work is inclusive for everyone.
